There are many reasons why you should fill your home with pleasant scents. They might bring back nice memories, they might help you concentrate, they can help hide other, not so pleasant scents, they can help you set the right mood whenever the mood needs to be set, be it a romantic dinner or a family gathering. Or they can simply make whatever you do in your home more enjoyable. And when you want to add a little bit of fragrance to your living space, here are a few ways you can go about doing it.
The most obvious thing you can do is start planting flowers and fragrant plants. Lavender, scented geranium, gardenias, honeysuckle, and even woodbine are fairly easy to grow indoors, and they all smell beautifully. However, you’ll get the nice scent only when they’re flowering, and you need to take care of them during the whole year.
If flowers aren’t practical enough for you, you can always try potpourri. It can be all-natural, spreading only the gentle scents of the plants it’s made from, or it can be scented, which gives you a wider choice of fragrances. So, you can have potpourri that smells like autumn, and you can have potpourri that smells like butterscotch.
Melting tarts are also a great choice to add some niceness to your home. They come with many different scents, just like scented potpourri does, and they are really easy to use and not at all messy. However, they are used in conjunction with open flame more often than not, so you should be careful with leaving them unattended.
Of course, the best thing you could do is find a way in which all three can work together all year round. Flowers in the spring and summer, potpourri in the autumn and winter, and melting tarts whenever the situation warrants it might be a good arrangement. But whatever you do, don’t forget to fill your time with things that will excite your senses - sense of smell included.
